And so did the rest of Seattle. And, from the looks of the people, much of Renton and Lynnwood as well.
I don't know what was more fun: looking at empty animal pens or seeing the old Chinese ladies carrying open umbrellas for shade. On a cloudy day.
People-watching was the action for the day on Monday. The zoo brings out all sorts. First people we encountered? A family of four. Mom, Dad, two kids (boy and girl, I think). They pulled up next to us in their Suburban. Mom got out and promptly fired up. Dad got out and Mom gave him a smoke which he smoothly tucked behind his ear. I heard a funny sound and realized it was the blood boiling in my ears (not really).
A few days ago I saw something similar. A mom driving with a butt in the corner of her mouth and her son strapped in the backseat.
I don't smoke and don't plan to start, but I guess I understand the need to do so. But, to beat a dead horse, at least give your kids the chance to breathe clean air and do it outside or when they're not around.

Tonight I head to Tacoma. I was (still might) going to play one more gig with Brett this Friday, but he's got himself a band. From what he says, they're pretty good. Apparently the bassist should be able to pull off the gig, but not vocally, so Brett's found a woman to do some of my backing vocals. Either way, I think I'm going to head up to Kenmore on Friday to check things out.
